I have found myself naturally doing what I do, being a leader, but this time in the workplace. I split my time between two positions and lead two equity-related auxiliary groups, but I am starting to feel that although I enjoy these things my labor is not properly recognized or valued.
Maybe I should should step down from an auxiliary group? I don’t want to fall into the trap of being the Black woman who is doing the emotional and operational labor to improve the workplace and culture, letting white people slide and do their bare privileged minimum to create change. I have something to lose and they don’t so in fighting for better working conditions for myself and my fellow Black co-workers they are benefitting.
How do you handle overextending yourself in the name of living an anti-racist life?
