Day 1– Serena came out with a cape like James Brown baby! Yes! The fit under was very wonder woman-esque. Love the gold sparkly.
Kind of hard to focus. So much stimuli.
I was sweating my ass off trying to find my seat.
Why tix to see Usher more expensive than to see Serena ?
Why the official libation of the US open gotta be grey goose. Now I cant drink because that shit gets me loose.
Do I wanna pay 32 for a glass of Moet?
Queen Latifah here. Ahhhhh!
Chile folks here move around seats like at baseball games and walk around real gingerly with church finger energy when they have to get up during a game.
I wore my Serena inspired ensemble today. Black and leopard print baby! Tomorrow I’ll wear my Venus inspired fit.
How they playing I choose you during a game for emirates airline? Lol. #theydontmatch
Ooh Gladys knight here. She so cute.
Bill here Clinton too!
Oh shit Mike Tyson! I feel so blessed.
Anthony Anderson definitely looks better with age…and a full beard
The person sitting in front of me musty as an ox. Sour. I ain’t smelled sour since being around teenage boys 25 years ago.
I teared up during the video they played before she came out. It kinda seemed surreal.
Day 2– I don’t know what made me get this spicy chicken sandwich. Chile got me suffering. Eyes watering, nose running, tongue and lips burning. Damn I should have got pizza.
Yay Venus! I had to hold back thug tears again. Apparently she moves me in some way that makes me happy cry. I cried 5 years ago when I saw her play here. I remember in high school we had to make shields like European families but with things that represented us. Venus was in the middle of my shield. It was Black with wings reminiscent of flames on the tops edges. Representation never leaves your heart or your spirit, 25 years later and she is still the bees knees to me.
I actually watched tennis before she went pro. I recall Arthur Ashe playing right when he retired after coming out with AIDS, Andre Agassi’s hair, Monica Seles and Steffi Graff, and Pete Sampras.
The tennis judge umpire dude sounds like he wants to purify us all in the water of lake Minnetonka. Lol. His voice is deep. He’s Black.
Venus ain’t running em down like she used to. Ol girl done got a lot of points because of that.
Gladys knight here again. She changed her wig. She so cute.
Ooh kill her with the serve Venus!
I kinda want a us open Panama jack hat, but don’t want to be looking old. How do you keep those hats fly?
Dang Venus didn’t win. It sucks to be her opponent where people cheer whenever you fault/lose a point.
Osaka looked so unassuming walking onto the property court. She can still blend. She so cute. Excited to see her grow.
Whenever you wanna talk shit about Black peoples names remember…there’s a white girl tennis player named Alize Cornet. Tiafoe is kinda cute. A better looking Daniel Kalua. I didn’t realize he repped the US.
Hijikata didn’t come to play with these hoes. His knees had rafa shook! Rafa has a nice ass and legs. People used to hate on his capris. Now he’s wearing short shorts. Ass looking noice!
The US open employs a lot of Black people. The 2 main stadiums are named after black people; Arthur Ashe and Louis Armstrong.
Saw a white lady with a fake ass. A maybe Afro Latina girl with high ass platforms on. Bitch why?! Your boyfriend built bad though…when weight-lifting goes wrong. Lol
I closed the my second and final night sitting in front of the water fountain with a cup of Chandon. I wasn’t ready to go home, but alas I have to work for a living. Some white lady offered me her ticket to some match playing in Armstrong, but it felt like a set up. Ain’t bout to catch me slippin. I screenshotted it, but didn’t attempt to use it.
I enjoyed seeing all of the Black people there. Lot’s of 60 yr old teacher girlfriends who travel together, lots of families with their little girls with braids and beads, retired older couples, gay dudes with nice legs in short shorts. Lots off Black people period of all ages and walks of life. It was beautiful to see how unifying Venus and Serena are and it made me a little sad that I had to experience it all alone. Seemed like everyone else came as a unit.
I thought I’d come home and continue to watch the open on TV. WRONG! Apparently none of the cable I pay for or apps I have access to have ESPN or the Tennis Channel so I missed so many matches and had to go all circa 1982 and listen to Serena’s last 3rd round match against ol girl on an Amex radio broadcast and watch the scores on google.
What an anti-climactic way to close out this experience. I heard Serena’s goodbye and felt a bit choked up and felt a bit disconnected because I couldn’t see it. I had butterflies the whole time. I will get around to watching the footage tomorrow.
As always I am rooting for everyone Black so I am excited to see Coco Gauff and Tiafoe continue to exemplify Black excellence and I can’t wait until my Serena GOAT hoodie gets here. Rocking it all fall/winter 22.
Here’s to Black Girl Magic!
